Gamseong Maul actually means ‘Village of Feeling’ in Korean. This place makes one aware of one’s own drowsiness.

I looked up ‘jujube’ in a Korean dictionary. It was explained as ‘a fruit that grows on the jujube tree’. I then looked up ‘jujube tree’. It was explained as ‘a tree that bears jujube fruit’. How dry these definitions were! And so, I made a dictionary in my own fashion: this is what I called ‘Gamseong Sajeon’*.

*Gamseong Sajeon (감성사전): ‘Gamaseong’ and ‘Sajeon’ can be translated from Korean as ‘sensitivity’ and ‘dictionary’ respectively. Oisoo’s ‘Gamseong Sajeon’, in which he lists his unique definitions, became a best seller as soon as it was published in Korea and still is a steady seller.

국어사전에서 대추라는 단어를 찾아 보았다. 대추나무에서 열리는 열매라고 풀이되어 있었다. 다시 대추나무를 찾아 보았다. 대추가 열리는 나무라고 풀이되어 있었다. 건조했다. 그래서 나는 나름대로의 사전을 하나 만들었다. 그것이 이른바 감성사전이다.
